Tre, beautiful and moving. I find beauty in the ability to change through empathy. Hearing that story made me think of all the biases I may or may not have towards people that get labeled “felons.”
Which is interesting, because my cousin was homeless and is a “felon” but has a huge heart and has just had a tough beat. My father has given him a place of residence in his home and I’m here for the time being and it’s been such a introspective place to listen.
Sometimes it’s hard for me to imagine how sheltered my life has been — but then I think about my travels and realize, everywhere there is always thin line between our emotional states — from greed, to anger, to love, to reverie.
The ones that grow and share in the beauty of this world are the ones that can pause and listen and reflect before choosing their response.
