our friendship recession hides
the little things that keep falling
like roadside trash
that we don’t slow down or pullover
to pick up.
connection breathes life into you
it happens underneath the surface
of our busy lives
with genuine human interactions
a gentle touch
a good hug
a shared smile of understanding
a reckoning with authenticity.
connection comes in ripples of meaning
and slides in under the waves of responsibility
when we choose intention
our heartbeats and seconds and minutes
grow for those meaningful things and people
we’ve forgotten to pick up again.
