Letters on Staying True to Yourself
August 19th, 2022
Most of the 7.87 billion people in the world don’t know you exist.
Think about that.
Then why do we care so much about what people think?
I know. I know. I know.
I do it too.
I get stuck in this trap of thinking and cycle of cultural conditioning.
The world wants me to be something, but what do I want to be?
My friends and family want to be something, but what do I want to be?
Who am I without what I think you identify me as?
There are actually people in our society loving you for whoever you are, for staying true to yourself (eh hem, just go to Burning Man), whoever and whatever that awesome-badass-drop-the-hammer-on-these-muthatruckas… is.
Staying true to yourself happens when you can forge your own path of self awareness— and that’s more than most of the 7,699,899,990 people out there.
Authenticity isn’t skin deep, it’s a soulful knowing and awareness that whatever you want to do and whoever you want to be… is the shit, even if you aren’t “it” yet.
You may never become it.
