I was so fucking excited. I felt like I had made it. I was a pro athlete pushing for greatness in Europe and this was the first of my three colossal contract years. I was 28 years old. On top of the world. But instead of loving the money, the fame, the status, and the luxury that came with my new salary, I slowly felt my excitement, happiness, and fascination quickly wear off.
People push at all costs to get to the top of their mountain, get there, and then realize, oh, this isn’t what I thought it would feel or be.
Money doesn’t make you happy for eternity. Or fame. Or status. Or even freedom. If it did, I’d know it, and Jim Carrey wouldn’t have said his quote:
