today, i wake with the orange sun, push my old toes into the soft earth, and speak inwardly about braving the adversity of change.

i have these anxious days when i don’t feel good, and i remind myself, “this is how growth can happen.”

i shut my eyes, squeeze out the pain and think of a feral rose, how the quiet cold darkness holds its blood-red blossom before the sun.

maybe humans are wild creatives at their core. maybe we allow society to strip the heart songs from our collective consciousness.

today, i’m trying to understand the names and origins of those hard feelings that want to keep me in the darkness, unable to sing.
