my proudest epiphanies

but being happy.

being happy
settles in
like my cup of rich brown morning coffee
those messy dripping slow-pour-over pots
endless cups steaming
sip sip sipping throughout my day
coffee that leaves dark drops in suspicious places
on the white mantle over the fireplace that doesn’t turn on,
splattered on my folding maple dinner tray nightstand,
lopsided rings on our lopsided shelf i installed near our front door,
on sky blue formica counters
porcelain toilet tops
bathroom sinks
even my favorite piece
our turquoise coffee table
we bought from the dealer on facebook marketplace.

my happiness is speckled in memories of moments everywhere
everywhere my coffee stops to stay in spots all over our house
and my lover complains about them
jokes gently as she wipes them clean
rolling her eyes
leaving a new blank canvas for me
to leave my happy on.
